The U.S. government has controlled access to Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs) for decades, keeping crucial information classified. That secrecy may soon face its greatest challenge yet. The House Oversight Task Force on Declassification, led by Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, has listed UAPs and Unidentified Submerged Objects (USOs) among its top investigative priorities.
During a recent public statement, Luna outlined the mission of the new task force, which will focus on declassifying federal secrets related to several high-profile topics. UAPs are among the classified matters that have remained largely restricted, despite growing demands for transparency from both the public and members of Congress.
The task force has already issued formal requests to the following agencies: the Department of Defense, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency, and the State Department. The goal is to obtain long-withheld UAP records and ensure that members of Congress, as well as the public, have access to critical information. Luna has stated that if agencies attempt to withhold data, the task force will expose that obstruction to the public.
