Today, we have 55 stackers to welcome! That's more than ever in this series but I also missed some stackers in my last two posts and included them now here. My script wasn't logged in and thus any bio with less than 10 sats invested was excluded since that's the default for the 'sats filter' setting. Since most bios are freebies, this means that I basically only included bios that have been zapped at least 10 sats in my last two posts. What a fumble!

Anyway, now that this is fixed this isn't going to happen anymore. It was also a nice chance to mention the 'sats filter' setting since I am sure some stackers that have been here for a while will say: "there is a 'sats filter' setting???" to which I will say "Yes, there is a 'sats filter' setting! The 'sats filter' setting filters recent by sats!". The 'sats filter' settings works like this:

Hi all! Pleasure to be here.

How did you find out about SN?

Got here (this time around) from a nostr note by @halalmoney. I've visited a couple times prior and read articles here and there, but didn't bother to interact, until now.

Right now, I miss the old reddit vibe where there was a healthier mix of discussion and passion/cynicism - where people could agree to disagree and not everything turned into either a flame war or a brainwash by default (like the bigger subreddits, big discords and the bird app has become today.) In my search for a new platform I decided to give engaging with SN a shot.

How difficult was it to get started? Any feedback?

It was easy for me, but it would be hard for me to get someone here that does not come with a bitcoin background. CC vs sats took me a minute to understand, of course after I accidentally bought CCs.

How much experience do you have with lightning?

I've been using LN for a longer time, as in from back when it was a pain in the behind. I'm nowadays just running Phoenix (mobile) instead of a node; having to do channel management on a non-portable node is not ideal when you're on the road a lot and I feel that using a well known LSP (like Acinq) has a good enough risk profile for small balance exposure - for now.

I think you're at the right place, many stackers have mentioned something simi same and said SN is what they were looking for

Definitely! But thanks to CCs, someone without a bitcoin background can also use SN with CCs and when they are ready for sats, they can attach a wallet.

CC vs sats took me a minute to understand, of course after I accidentally bought CCs.

At least you will spend CCs instead of sats on posts and comments, so if you're active enough here, it shouldn't matter that you bought CCs!

I currently just submarine swap from Phoenix to on-chain (and when feerates are insane but need incoming liquidity, stage to liquid and then back to on-chain from there whenever it's calmed down - pleb life.)

phoenixd has been on my 'to yolo onto a server' list ever since it were announced - i found that to be an awesome concept. But, I've gotta build something to actually use it - I've found real usage to be by far the best way to try new things, just start small. I was thinking to try to make it work in combination with a btcpayserver and put up a storefront of some kind. Would be fun.

You can try out phoenixd on the machine you're using right now and then later restore from the seed if you want to migrate to another machine.

It's really really easy, just run the binary from here and done!

Some verification would be nice but maybe it's fine since it's from acinq.co

I remember that I spent a full day on SN the first time, was searching about Lightning networks and just stared at all the knowledge SN can give (it's a lot!). Safe to say that as an engineer I went straight to the repo to see what was going on 👀

I found it through a recommendation from a colleague on Discord.

I found it very easy and intuitive. Even though the interface might seem anti-UX, I actually like this purely text-based and even terminal-like aspect. It feels simple—and it is—which is a good thing.

My experience with Lightning is very limited, if not nonexistent. I have a wallet and a small amount of sats. I know it’s a parallel network to on-chain, and that it’s faster and cheaper in fees compared to it. My first article is about my journey to better understand the network.

Yoooo I have had... THE craziest week and will continue to have a crazy month as I change cities. I GOT THE JOB (I've been talking about it in the Stacker Saloon).

But as a new stacker here's my responses:

I think I accidentally wandered into SN off of Nostr and love the format here. It reads to me somewhat like bitcoiners reddit, even though that's probably a terrible comparison.

Difficulty getting started is how janky the lightning wallet payout is. For whatever reason, SN is the one place where my Alby connected wallet falls flat on its face. Whenever I want to extract my earned sats to my personal lightning wallet, it's better to just use my @. Don't know if I should point fingers at SN or Alby on that one.

Experience with lightining: enough to do things I care about and not enough to be dangerous. I suspect I'll hover here for quite some time, especially during my move.

On the FAQ... I think I've dabbled :) I wander.

Can you share details? Are you trying do withdraw manually or are you trying to attach your Alby wallet? Are you running Alby Hub and want to use NWC?

So yes on Alby Hub usage to my own wallet, the problem is using either invoice or QR just doesn't seem to work for me:

I end up having to go with option 3, lightning address, and manually enter in my @getalby.com handle to withdraw sats to my wallet. Not exactly sure why my connected Alby extension isn't handling it well. It works like a charm in other places.

My policy with trolls is not to feed them. And to try to appreciate what might be useful in Darth’s case. He seems truly passionate, to the point of defending it with weapons. Strength of a real bitcoiner comes from surviving my supposedly trolling. Only the brave can survive and find the true path. And that wasn't trolling at all. Is just a genuine question: WTF have you done until 2025 ? But we have too many snowflakes around... if we only warm welcome noobs and never slap them on the back of the head, they will be sleepy NPCs...
