In my small regional city there are very few Bitcoin accepting Bricks and Mortar businesses.
There are increasingly some online global sites where I can use Bitcoin/LN.
For the Bricks and Mortar businesses there are still considerable obstacles to accepting Bitcoin/LN. There is considerable public hostility due to the years of FUD against Bitcoin. There are complex tax reporting requirements. There is the past experience where LN was not user friendly. There are threats from banks that a business accepting Bitcoin will have its fiat banking access removed.
The legacy fiat operators are determined to keep Bitcoin confined to their narrative of it being a speculative commodity, not a MoE and thus not a threat to their monetary hegemony.
MoE BTC/LN adoption is still almost exclusively online and is still limited.
In my city there are a few high value merchants (jewelers and expensive cars) who accept Bitcoin. There is only one food outlet- a sandwich shop who accept BTC/LN. I am going there for lunch today!
Hopefully the adoption that is growing online will spread to the Bricks and Mortar shops as the number of users grows but the obstruction from bankers and governments who seek to protect and preserve their fiat monopoly is considerable and continues to prevent all but the most courageous and principled Bricks and Mortar retailers- I find where a Bricks and Mortar shop accepts Bitcoin their service is generally above average. When traveling I seek them out because the value for money is usually better and the more of us who support them, this P2P payments revolution will continue to grow.
