One month into the year vibe check

I've got some questions for all of us. I feel like we haven't talked in a while, how are y'all?

Are you starting something new?

  • This year has already promised big change for me. To handle my changes, I'm doing an experiment where I trust that whatever is in store is good. Will report on results.

Does your political climate feel weird?

  • I just wanted to say that it doesn't feel like I thought it would. It feels like a lot is happening. Things of extreme interest and even suspicion are out there, but they are not blooming into focus culturally. I don't know, the moment feels odd to me.

What one word would you use to describe your vibe for 2025?

  • Renew, that's mine. It doesn't really mean anything tbh.

What's your current music/TV/podcast interest?

  • I'm watching Succession. I'm pretty heavy into Theo Von's podcast. This record I recently got into: Passive with Desire Choir Boy.

how are y'all?

I am not entirely sure what this means but I like it: I am swell. How are you? 👀

Are you starting something new?

I am finally moving out of my flat this month to be free like a bird because I don't intend to settle down somewhere again for a while.

I also want to get a pilot license or a pet (probably dog). Two goals so I can at least achieve one of them. Not sure which is harder though but I have more of an idea how to get a pilot license than how to get a dog, especially because I don't want to settle down somewhere again for a while. So maybe a pet is out of question until I commit to some location for a few years again. 🤔 (/cc @siggy47 @grayruby)

Does your political climate feel weird?

Not really, just as weird as usual since I also stopped being a leftist. But I do feel some Schadenfreude that our government dissolved in November and that Trump won, since my fellow Europeans really hate him. I also really liked this meme about the US election:

memes as the only way to stay sane in this clown world

But I am also scared of who our new government will be and I’m still struggling to walk the fine line between ‘I don’t care about politics’ or 'both sides are wrong' vs. dealing with someone talking uneducated, biased shit, lol

What one word would you use to describe your vibe for 2025?

🕊️

What's your current music/TV/podcast interest?

I want to finish Better Call Saul, but I don't remember where I left off, so I'll probably just start from the beginning again. I also want to watch El Camino, Narcos, The Sopranos, etc. I guess you can see a pattern in the kind of shows I like.

reply

what did you mean by "our gov't dissolved in Nov"? this is curious

reply
29 sats \ 11 replies \ @ek 5 Feb

Since we have many parties to elect, and five of them usually receive enough votes to enter parliament (>5%), our government is typically formed by two or three parties to secure more than 50% of the votes.

In November, one party was removed from the government by the other two, leaving them with less than 50%. So now they no longer have a majority and must constantly seek parliamentary support for decisions. Essentially, it's a crippled government, and we're waiting for new elections. Apparently, they are scheduled for end of this month.

Does that make sense?

I'm a bit worried because after the left-green shift [1] (which abandoned nuclear power), we're now seeing a strong shift into the opposite direction. Since I look like an immigrant, I might end up as collateral damage, lol

It's probably not as bad but maybe just not yet.

  1. The derogatory term is 'linksgrün-versifft.' We use 'versifft' to describe something that is wet and reeks.

I'm thinking about voting AFD, you?

reply

No, I won’t vote or vote Pirates or Die Partei.

Can you vote in Germany? I thought you’re in the Netherlands but I think you mentioned that you’re actually German, too 🤔

reply

I've got double nationality.

reply

Ok in your case I maybe would also vote AFD just as a (short-sighted) fuck with Germany if I don't live there anyway haha

Is that true?

All great shows! I slept on BCS for too long, it’s quite good

Season 1 was my favorite for BCS and Sopranos

but all were excellent

Does your political climate feel weird?

As we've discussed I feel less white. I'm kidding but in a funny cause it's true way. If I'm being honest, I also feel more grateful to be in America now that we're excluding people from coming in. It's a weird kind of gratitude, but I feel it.

I also feel like a lot is happening very fast (as far as my screens tell me), yet the shoe hasn't dropped so I have a kind of anxiousness about it all.

What one word would you use to describe your vibe for 2025?

Magic. I've been thinking about it a lot. Not necessarily the performance art called magic but the feeling of witnessing magic.

What's your current music/TV/podcast interest?

I've been listening to a The 50th Law audiobook on my walks. There's a new show we're watching called Paradise that's a lot of fun.

reply

Even Austin is excluding people? When did Austin voters see the light?

reply

I think my vibe is always the same

Listening to lofi hip-hop girl almost makes me nostalgic for the fun, sleepless nights with friends before university exams but then I look at her face

reply

I like that face haha. I'm an ultra nerd. I actually enjoy zoning out to study something.

love that particular vibe, for real

It's in the Live tab of her channel. Looks like there's a lofi dude for synthwave now too. There's even funky stuff like halloween and medieval playlists in recorded videos.

One month in, and the vibe is strong!

I’m all about BTC, LN, Food, and DOING MORE this year—earning more sats, eating better, working out more, and spending more time outside. Also reminding myself not to be too hard on myself—just human, after all.

Surprisingly, I’ve been getting into anime. Never thought it was my thing, but Solo Leveling and Kaiju No. 8 completely changed my mind. Solo Leveling is incredibly well made—motivating, exciting, and honestly a masterpiece IMO. Definitely one of my all time favorite TV shows! Been watching on Crunchyroll, if anyone has recommendations for other anime like these, let me know!

Politically, things feel different. I support Ecuador’s president and hope everything goes well so he gets reelected and makes the country safer. Milei is fantastic, Bukele is doing things right—especially with Bitcoin. Meanwhile, Maduro needs to end up in Guantanamo, with Petro who is a disaster, and Mexico’s “leadership” isn’t looking great either.
Honestly, Trump’s reelection might have been a good thing for Latin America.

This year, I will become a better person and look beyond my flaws, failures, and shortcomings. I know I’m strong and intelligent, still defining who I am, and most importantly, learning to love myself.

Word for 2025? BUILD. In every sense.
I will earn more, grow more, and create a better future.

As for your questions:

Are you starting something new?
Not really, still working to get my old stuff off the ground first. Focus is my business (#784376), writing (going to finally publish some older material + if all goes well, I'd expect some new things to emerge also) and physical exercise (I think I'll be able to do a proper handstand pushup this year. I'm not too far off anymore). But my short-medium term plans are very loose. Might end up working a fiat job for a bit. Hopefully will end up travelling in South & Central America by the 2nd half of the year. Maybe I'll record a song or two. Who knows.
Does your political climate feel weird?
I try not to think about it.
What one word would you use to describe your vibe for 2025?
Resilience. But that was also the theme for the end of 2024... so maybe something new. Maybe mine is renew as well. IDK, it's too early to tell I guess.
What's your current music/TV/podcast interest?
Nothing too specific. My music taste is a good indicator of how all over the place I can be. Current go-to playlists include Get hype (workouts), TRIBAL (workouts/yoga, driving), Jazz for Reading (work, background, chill), Bossa Nova Classics (background, chill), Healing Rhythms (yoga, meditation), Easy listening (background, chill), Best of Chopin (work, background, chill).

I have found myself watching an above average amount of old (and new) Academy of Ideas videos on YouTube recently, though.

reply

Everything I'm doing new this year is related to either SN or LN.

As far as my political climate goes, it feels pretty different than last year. I used to be really into politics, but nit so much anymore.

My word for the year is "grind" I have a lot of goals, and I'm keeping after them.

Currently the wife and I are watching Korean cooking shows on Netflix.

I'm going to travel all around India on a bike seeking or creating Bitcoin communities everywhere. It'd also be my dream come true.

I live in India and find your idea interesting. How are you planning to execute it? I might be able to contribute by building a website, creating a community, or helping in another way.

You always introduce something unique. Asking four questions in one go lol

  1. Gonna spend a huge sum of money to renovate my flat
  2. Same old same old. We have upcoming elections in my country this year, though. Maybe things will be shaken up.
  3. blog. This is the year in which I will withdraw $150 from Google Adsense.
  4. Erm Single’s Inferno Season 4. Don’t judge!

I did. Then it took on greater significance for me because I wanted to have something uniquely mine apart from my job and family. My personal space in which I can just write whatever I want. Might as well make it a (slow-burning) side hustle lol

Are you starting something new?

Many things in flux. Continuing and doubling down on things more than starting new things.

Does your political climate feel weird?

Not really. People choose how to feel and many seem to be addicted to outrage and I get it. I have to resist that myself.

What one word would you use to describe your vibe for 2025?

Popcorn.

Answer 1:
Learning everything I can about Meteorology this year, since it's apparently the most dangerous existential threat we face at the moment, outside of propaganda, which I've already got a master's in. Having ChatGPT tutor me on how to use QGis. If anybody knows anything neat about that software, tips/tricks, etc., I'd love to hear them.

Already loving the ability to curate my own radar images with far more relevant data than any website I've found can provide.

Also learning about gr-satellites and other fun stuff with my cheap little SDR, but haven't had a chance to pick up any weather satellite signals just yet. Too damn cold out there for me to be standing around pointing a diy antenna at the sky like a lunatic.

Answer 2:
Weirder than I've ever seen.

Answer 3:
Prepare

Answer 4:
Nothing new, really. Waiting for the full season before Succession. I like to binge. My favorite music for passive listening is Andres Segovia or The Chieftains.

What one word would you use to describe your vibe for 2025?
