Heavy cannabis use as well as recent cannabis use was associated with lower levels of brain activation during a commonly used working memory task. During the other tests, covering reward mechanisms, emotions, language skills, and motor skills, there was no substantial difference.
Really interesting how specific these results are. As a former cannabis user, it would seriously impair my programming abilities, which demands an abnormal amount of working memory. I've held a hypothesis for some time that one's effectiveness as a programmer is probably directly proportional to working memory capacity/performance, so this is sad to see from that perspective.
