My general zapping behavior is to have my default zap amount, and then, as appropriate, zap 1-4 times. (For a much larger zap I will long-press, and choose from one of those amounts, but that's much rarer.) Since linking a Lightning wallet, I've noticed that these multi-zaps are separate withdrawals from my wallet; on occasion, the zap fails due to the size of the fee being too large relative to the magnitude of the zap.

Would it make sense to aggregate zaps within some time window and send them as a single larger zap, to less the routing friction? Have I understood this correctly? Assuming I have, obviously the issue isn't a showstopper, but it would be a nice quality-of-life thing.

I used to do this too. Due to the animation it's fun to click the lightning multiple times instead of once with more sats. Not anymore due to the new minimum amount that swaps to CCs

I am doing custom zaps all the time now to ensure zaps don’t fail and the recipient gets sats not cc’s.

@k00b's probably the best person to ask about this and see if it's still the same. I seem to recall him saying before that the first zap is what matters for the early zap bonus, but for the regular points it's the biggest zap that counts. Not 100% sure if that's still true though.

For zapping rewards purposes, contiguous zaps are grouped into islands and treated as independent zaps. If that doesn't make sense, if you zap more later after other people have zapped, neither the early zap or the late zap influences the other - they are scored independently. It basically works in a game theoretically ideal way.

For post/comment ranking/rewards, zap order is irrelevant. Zapping X sats early in the order is the same zapping X sats late in the order. Zapping X sats early in the order, then Y sats later in the order, affects ranking the same as if you zapped X+Y sats all at once early or later in the order.
