This is from Nov 2024 but well worth the read. The founder comes across as incredibly thoughtful and even noble. Who knows what's actually going on behind the scenes and what ulterior motives he may or may not have, but reading this, I couldn't help but wonder: when did a Chinese entrepreneur become the one focused on releasing open source, driving down costs for all, and winning through innovation and competition in a free market while our most well known American AI entrepreneurs (with the exception of Elon) seem hellbent on winning via proprietary secrets and regulatory capture? Weird state of affairs.
If you had told me that in 2025 a Chinese hedge fund would be giving the world AI for free while an American non-profit would be charging $200/month for similar tech, I probably wold not have believed you.
