These dogs are smart, friendly, athletic, and really photogenic. William Wegman built an entire career by photographing these animals in odd, anthropomorphic ways. @Coinsreporter was asking me the other day about book authors speaking in the US. I was wandering around a New York City bookstore many years ago where Wegman was giving a lecture and had a book signing. It was cool hearing how he posed the dogs, staged the shoots, etc. Check out some of his photos:

There are so many great Japanese breeds. I will definitely get to them. I also have a book recommendation about an Akita breeder. I have to dig up the book.

The akita and shihu inu are both interesting dogs.
