There are so many great Japanese breeds. I will definitely get to them. I also have a book recommendation about an Akita breeder. I have to dig up the book.

These dogs are smart, friendly, athletic, and really photogenic. William Wegman built an entire career by photographing these animals in odd, anthropomorphic ways. 

 was asking me the other day about book authors speaking in the US. I was wandering around a New York City bookstore many years ago where Wegman was giving a lecture and had a book signing.  It was cool hearing how he posed the dogs, staged the shoots, etc. Check out some of his photos:
