As America shifts towards Trump's vision of domestic production, prices may rise, will you accept higher costs for the benefit of supporting American jobs and industries?

Or will you seek out cheaper alternatives, potentially from the Shiner?

The trade-off between patriotism and purse is a personal one.

I will definitely be looking for ways to reduce costs. That will likely involve a lot more home production and a bit less discretionary consumption.

If they follow through on replacing the income tax with consumption taxes, I'll be very happy.

It is interesting to watch those that oppose Trump but supported the prev admin admitting things they deny normally. Like indirect taxes affect the cost of living and that taxation affect behavior and may even have unintended consequences.

It interesting to watch the left in opposition. Imagine a world where both parties used logic and consistent positions regardless of political alignment... yeah, pipe dream.

No. I want to have access to the largest pool or skills, talent, and resources available in the entire world.

I stand with the free market and any individuals who choose to operate as free-market participants.

Taxation is theft. That's where I stand. Tariffs are taxes. They aren't direct like income or property taxes but you are correct they affect prices of goods. They distort the market as ALL taxes do.

I would prefer tariffs over income and property taxes. I would prefer sales tax over those as well. I'd prefer no theft though. Make it voluntary. What is more patriotic than freedom? If you're an American that is.

I'm not from the US and I was talking to my buddy about it at the sauna, I naively thought Trump would force the importing country to pay the tariff.

When my buddy said, Trump is basically forcing the American to not buy foreign goods by imposing the tariff on the consumer I was quite surprised.

Where is Trump going to build all the televisions? Where are the components coming from?

The US labour costs will be massive but has the average American got used to taking advantage of kids in sweat shops doing the job for a fraction of the cost.

you kinda answered your own question...there is no way trump can maintain tariffs long enough for manufacturing to actually shift permanently back to US. he has maybe 6 to 12 months to make a show of it. if he actually imposed any serious tariffs ( doubtful), in 12 months hed have rescinded any such tariffs to make sure republicans dont get smacked in 2026 mid term elections.
