A country that industrializes and does not depend solely on commodities will be successful. Now we will have to know what Vietnamese diplomacy will be like due to its inclusion in BRICS, given that the US is one of its main export partners.

There are plenty other ways to fail. e.g. middle income trap. Not saying that it will hapen, just that it can.

Without a doubt, there is always this risk, and one of the ways for this to happen (not the only one) is to reduce the volume of exports. That's why I mentioned the possible unfavorable implications of joining the BRICS. But I believe that due to its location, it was a more than natural choice to be included in this political/economic bloc.

Nice summary. I'm heading back over there for work soon.
I heard that Hanoi just had a severe flood last year and was batttling high PM2.5 and general smog over the winter. Guess that's part of the price of breakneck speed urban development.
