I don't have much to say or teach as to people's (or stackers', #850716) technical setups. Very untechnical over here, and safeguarding my seedphrases are about where my competence zone ends. I believe I've posted in this territory a sum total of once (#800714) so there you have it.
Today I finally carved(!) out a few hours of peace and quiet to get this bad boy up and working.
(and yes, @realBitcoinDog, there's bread in the background; fucking cheatday/pre-tasting my home-cooked pastries for tonight's potluck, #hypocrisy.)
Technically, this is influencer/paid advertising blah-blah since Trezor gifted me one back when they first launched this product (I wanna say 2023 but who's keeping track). But this specific item I bought on a nice black Friday discount a few months ago, so I guess I can get away with not being a shill. Who knows.
As someone who actually has hammered letters into steel (in an elaborate, time-consuming process of backing up seedphrases, DYI style), I like the feel of the Keep. It's sleek, it's pretty, it's heavy, and it's super convenient. I liked it the first time I saw it—and still like it.
It comes with a marking pen (which is pretty useless, just skip using it) and a spring-loaded puncher that any idiot can wield. Also security seal stickers to ensure it hasn't been opened/tampered with. The only tricky bit is finding exactly the right spot for the puncher to punch; it's kind of a small area. Then again, you have 4x12=48 ones to do; can't be that hard to pay strict attention for ten minutes. Basically, adequately using this product comes down to:
- don't copy down your seedphrase words wrong (i.e., wrong word, or wrong order)
- don't punch the wrong place in the metal
Jameson Lopp hasn't tested it as far as I can tell but it's similar enough in style to many others that I'm confident that fire/acid/snow etc won't stain the material and make the info unreadable. (My only remaining doubt is fire/mudslides/avalanches, and whether I could physically find the device again should this tail risk present itself.). There are tons of these products around (i.e., here), so just pick whichever you prefer at a price point that's good for you.
Plenty of guides out there (Econoalchemist is always worth reading). Any questions or comments, just let me know.
Feel pretty good, man.
