Disrupted my boy’s television viewing to read this book to him.
This was the first time I was reading it too, and I wanted to find out the extent to which this book would be useful for primary school children learning Science.
The intrigue factor is definitely there. I didn’t know that pink dolphins exist in the Amazon River in South America.
Cressida Cowell didn’t mention how these beautiful beasts are mammals and breathe through lungs 🫁. Hence, as a Science resource, it may not be that useful. She did mention how male dolphins use stones and sticks and weeds to make friends with female dolphins and attract their attention, so a behavioural adaptation of dolphins is at least mentioned.
Cressida also mentioned echolocation, which is a concept that I find fascinating. For better or for worse, this is not covered in the primary school Science syllabus, so I cannot satisfy my curiosity through my work. Haha. 🐬
