Tobacco products are attracting fewer U.S. teen and tween users than at any other time in the last 25 years.
The latest numbers come from the 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey, or NYTS. It collected data from January to May of that year. Only 8 percent of middle and high school students — about 2.25 million teens and tweens — reported using tobacco products in the previous month.
Curious to know what rules are there for the purchase of tobacco products by teens?
Here, we certainly have a tougher law and also the culture doesn't allow you smoke or vape in open as a teenager.
As a "young person" I do think that my generation simply switched to a different set of addictions.
Let me explain.
If you are a smoker, a drinker, a gambler, you have to DO something. Actively seek the casino, the pack of sigarettes, a pub to drink. You have to go out there to get the excitement.
With the new addictions, excitement is in you pocket. The cost to access it is zero, the marginal cost of consuming an additional unit of it is zero. Addiction is limitless.
So yeah, as an insider I would say that his will be the sickest generation, ever.

Is swapping alcohol and tobacco for fentanyl really an improvement?

Young people don't smoke anymore, young people don't drink anymore. Young people don't have car accidents anymore. Young people don't have teen pregnancies anymore. All of these sound (and are) good. But the reason is that they don't leave their homes and socialize anymore.
