So, how my wife and I handle finances is that both of our paychecks go into the same account. That account funds all of our bills including gas, groceries, and savings. We then split the rest 50/50. That's our "fuck you" money. We literally never argue about money, because we always get the same amount and it works great for us.
Obviously just about every penny of my "fuck you" money goes directly into bitcoin without question, I figure I can buy enough for both of us with just my money alone.
I really wasn't even trying to orange pill her. I don't really try to persuade her, but I occasionally talk about it. I figured if she wasn't into it, I wasn't going to beat her over the head with it, because nobody wants to live with that. My wife is still very much in a fiat mindset, and out of curiosity she asked me how much she thought my bitcoin would be worth by the time I'm 65. I sat down with her and told her how much I was planning on spending per year on bitcoin and then had AI do the math for me, because I can barely tie my own shoes.
FV = P × [((1 + r)^n - 1) / r]
Where:
  • FV is the future value of your investment.
  • P is the payment made each period (annually, in this case).
  • r is the interest rate per period (as a decimal).
  • n is the number of periods.
I had it run the math at 10% yearly return and 30% yearly return and told her, "no guarantee, but it seems pretty safe to assume it will fall between those two numbers." And that was enough for her to want to start putting money in.
She's not going as hard as I am, but now I get to buy even more bitcoin than I was planning on, and I could not be more happy about it.
Great work! I'm helping my wife get set up. I made her an authorized user on my Fold account, so she now has a debit card to use for her business to help us stack sats. She's publishing various forms of content—podcasts, blogs, videos, etc.—in the wellness area.
I discovered how to use Nostr and Nostr Wallet Connect to help her monetize her business faster than traditional methods like YouTube and Instagram. I set her up with a Nostr key pair and connected NWC wallets on Alby and Coinos.io to it. I also introduced her to the Fountain app, Stacker News, and Primal to monetize her work through value-for-value payments. I might have done too much too quickly, but she's working on getting her podcast up on Fountain. Hopefully, it's a start!

Strike also has bill pay that id recommend
reply
Yes, I haven’t tried it yet but I like that I can stack more aggressively and use it to pay bills. Fold is good because you can stack rewards with less volatility for short term bill payments.

Good work. Now listen to me veeeery carefully. This advice is from my OWN experience with a wifey.
  • do not show her how to SPEND easily those sats. Tell her is hard. PERIOD. Otherwise you are fucked. NEVER ever show her sites where they accept sats.
  • do not let her control YOUR wallets. Yes, let her have own wallets
  • Give her lndhub accounts that YOU can control and in SHTF cases you still have the sats. She can lose the lndhub account but not the sats. Shit happen ALL THE TIME
  • show her https://satsback.com/, | https://www.lolli.com/ | https://foldapp.com/ or any other site that take her VISA and give back sats reward.
  • make her to think about SAVINGS not spending.
WIFES WILL ALWAYS SPEND ALL YOUR SATS WITH NO REMORSE. REMEMBER THAT.

I think I may conveniently leave out the part where you can spend sats at all for now. She's more than happy spending fiat.
The only sats I have ever spent so far have come from SN and always in the spirit of learning. Otherwise it's a waste.

Spending sats it doesn't mean to spend at all cost just for the sake of spending...
I also teach my wife to spend first her fiat and what remain, move to BTC. We manage our finances separately, but yes some of the common expenses we are doing them in common. I have only BTC, she still have fiat (she still earn in fiat). But she will never ever touch my BTC wallets.

My cold storage is a black hole. Nothing ever leaves.
I will eventually teach her how to buy and spend sats with her money, im sure she will get more interested now that she has a dog in the race. In the meantime I will keep learning so that I can help her learn too. And keep putting as much away as possible.
For now she is happy putting extra in cold storage for later in life.

How do you think she'll handle the next bear market?
reply
She'll be fine. There's enough historical data that I've been able to show her the possible outcomes. I personally haven't gone through a bear yet, but I know it's coming and I know what to expect, so I'm just going to keep buying.

Why is there an interest rate in the equation?
reply
It's the %annual return. So for the sake of conversation with my wife i thought that it would be safe to assume that bitcoin would go up by 10 to 30% annually over the next 3p years. Considering it's previous growth I'd say it's a pretty safe bet.

I think its a pretty safe assumption too. I might try this on my wife and see what happens.
reply
Yea, seeing it broken down in actual expected returns is nuts. Even 1000 a year can be significant in 20 years.

Just out of curiosity, how many years left before your 65?, and according to the formula, what would be the value of a Btc at that time?
reply
22 years (I set it for 20) and if I continue at the rate I'm going it will be between 800k and 11 million approximately. I just started 6 months ago by the way and my goal is 15k a year.
So it fucking adds up.

I'll try with this story.
My wife is really not in the love with money. But she loves investment by making me obey her wishes every now and then in Gold. She's typical Indian housewife who wants more ornaments than she can wear.
I'm trying hard but she wants to see Bitcoin. She says I know you've lot of money but what's the use if you don't spend it on me. ;)
