I lost my old UTXOs in the historical dump of 2017 after the BCH shitcoin fork. I had to in order to be able to claim the new coins and dump them immediately for new fresh BTC UTXOs.
I still keep a small one as a relic from 2012.
One theory i have thought about for years is that the 2017 event was used to determine how much 'lost' coin there is.
There is some value in knowing what has been in circulation since 2017, given wider usage of BIP32 and stronger key management practices.
While splitting is of negligible value today, there might be folks out there today with unsplit UTXOs pre-2017, although the 'coupon' here presented by contentious hard forks reduces in value every year.
Always bet on orange!
(and i have to say kudos on having the nerve to split old UTXOs at the time. in hindsight, it was the economically correct decision to make).

when I saw that the fork is going to happen, I prepared myself with all extracted privkeys and be ready to do the dump immediately is possible.
I knew it will be a matter of hours or few days until the exchange rate BTC/BCH is going to drop fast so the race was to obtain as much as you can more new fresh coins and secure them in a new UTXO.
The only thing that was delayed was only decent exchanges (not scams) that were willing to accept the dump, you know...
Lucky for me I knew a dumb bcasher that was willing to take a lot of my newly BCH in exchange for his BTC at 1:1. So I had to use regular exchanges only for a small portion of dumping BCH, with a lower rate of exchange.
Daaamn was so fast those days, if you were a clueless noob you will got shit. Fucking exciting times...
