ok, so i've been seeing the news about the crazy fires in LA and, as a bitcoiner, it makes me wonder how I would manage my seed phrase if I was there. I have copies in different locations, but it made me think, that wouldn't be much good to me if a massive fire was ripping through my area.
lots of factors could make it impossible to move in time, or access whatever hiding spot it's in.
Maybe a metal plate one would be ok, but I don't know about max temperatures etc
I suppose this could apply to other places that might be subject to natural disasters.
would multisig be the best way to defeat mother nature?

Memorizing your seed words in addition to physical backups would work well.

personally i like book cyphers.. you can save a book cypher in a cloud as long as you memorize the book and the version that is additional to the seed plate

I don’t think there’s a perfect place but rather a set of characteristics that make a place safe and secure to store. For redundancy, you can always memorize it but is prone to human error.
I wrote an article that goes into some detail about how to safely store your seed phrase that you might find relevant and useful.

this week has been a good exercise...unfortunately for thousands of people in L.A., seed phrase or otherwise

💯

good articles, I bookmarked at least 2

Have a copy of the seed in another city (use a Passphrase!), memorize the passphrase.
Have a metal copy of the seed in your home. Here is how: https://estudiobitcoin.com/fabrica-tu-billetera-fria-con-arandelas/

Multisig and give some of the keys to people who live elsewhere.
Also good for redundancy and most other situations.

I already explained this scenario here: #804518 hint: one of my guides contain "an emergency" seed embedded. When I am surrounded by fire, I don't give a shit about metal plates, I just run

i more mean how could someone plan their seed security in advance, before the shit hits the fan.
obvs in your scenario, you have your encrypted Usb. how safe is https://publicnote.com/ for example, could part of a seed be there?
reply
I explained 3 scenarios in there The encrypted USB is also backed up online somehwre, as I said, it can be even 12 words in one of my guides or an email sent to your mother. Are just 12 fucking words.
Make a nice stupid website a blog or whatever you want. And just put in specific location 12 words. You will be always able to go online and take the words, where only you know where you put them.
Or you can use a phrase from your website in publicnote to reveal the seed. Nobody will know which phrase it is. Options are unlimited, you need only some imagination to create the hints.

i like that idea actually, just a wall of text in something like publicnote
have you got a guide on how to build and plan one of those SHTF USB keys?

you;ve got so many guides that we need a guide to the guides

and you don't want to see my drafts folder... with how many scenarios I still have not published yet.

from his guide:
Phrase within another sentence. Another little madness, you can use, for example, a phrase from your text “Madness in plain sight” and put it in PublicNote This algorithm (which is open source and you can take it offline if you want) makes an encryption of this text resulting in another text. An example: I put in PublicNote the text “this is a test”, which turns it into “this is my 12 word password”. So again hiding text in plain sight but this time a little more “hidden”. They also have a mobile version.
