You may enjoy Selgin's book Good Money if you haven't seen it -- was very mind-opening to me for similar reasons, one of the most influential books on my btc journey in fact.
Also, nobody ever says this, but Selgin is a beautiful and elegant writer!

I was just re-reading The Genesis Book last night. Nick Szabo talks about Selgin's theories on free banking. He saw it as an improvement over a central bank, but pointed out the problem that trusted third parties (TTP) still exist. Ultimately he predicted once there was a failure of trust, the system would return to one controlled by a central bank.
