If you wonder why I mentioned you, here's what I mentioned last week:
[...] I knew that there must be many new stackers that I did not welcome in any way and thus missed out on many opportunities to find out where they came from or make sure they have a good start and aren't greeted with silence. I only reply to new bios when I randomly see them while scrolling through recent and the bio doesn't sound like a bot.
Then I remembered that one of the strengths of SN is that the site we're building is also the feedback channel from/to our users. It cannot be understated how valuable this is as was mentioned in this panel at 16:56.
So why not play to our strengths and create regular posts that welcome new stackers?
At the same time:
  • we can ask them where they found out about SN
  • ask them how the (non-existent) onboarding was
  • ask if they have any good or bad feedback
  • give them another chance to introduce themselves
  • they can see how other new stackers in their "cohort" "performed"
Additionally, old stackers can:
  • talk about their interactions with them
  • check them out and engage with them
  • zap the ones worth zapping
Welcome to Stacker News and I hope you had a good first week even though it was the week we switched to non-custodial!
Welcome, n00bs!
I feel like we need one of those "It Gets Better" marketing campaigns.

You mean this? 👀

Yeah, that's the idea.

I am not a noob, sorry.

Thanks for the welcome. You guys are very kind! I don't think I received such a welcome when I joined nostr or any other platform. Feels like I'm in the right place.

Welcome!
How did you find SN? Was anything confusing on your first day?

Yeah, I think it's hard to greet new people on nostr since you only see them if you follow them afaik

The first time I came across SN was in a local Bitcoiner Instant Messaging group a few months ago. I would read SN every now and then. I wasn't too active as a daily active user
Lately, though, I have been trying to get used to BTC as a MoE instead of only HODLing it as a SoV. So, I decided to spend sats generously(before, I felt spending even 1 Satoshi to post was not HODLing and was like spending a piece of Manhattan real estate—you know where this came from, haha ) and then properly signed up here. I am very pleased with my decision so far :)

Haha we've all been there
edit: I see you even already attached a wallet, nice

Thanks, am going all in on exploring MoE in 2025 :)
I was finding it difficult to do lightning channel management a few years back, so I abandoned LN, except for having very few sats in custodial LN wallets. I feel like some tools like AlbyHub have made this a lot easier nowadays. It’s still a pain, but less of a pain than in the past, haha.

I use phoenixd and it's also pretty good. You don't have to manage channels etc. but you pay for that convenience with fees.
I think I'll soon run a LND node with a private channel to SN again for those sweet zero-fee payments from and to SN.

In order to open a private channel with SN, where can I find the channel details?

I guess I still need to figure out what Cowboy Credits(CC) are. Why do we need CC when we have sats? What is the exchange rate between them? I see some people trying to get in on it by spending sats. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a sh**coin. I feel this has to do with SN going non-custodial at around the same time I joined with full force, but I need to figure out its nuances. I haven't spent much time on this topic, so I don't want to talk too much about it.

Also, this issue of reducing routing fees will be good to get started. Right now 30% of the zaps received are going out in the form of routing fees(I guess) #838895
