pull down to refresh

It was Saturday, but my son woke up at 7.15am, thirty mins before his usual wake-up timing.
The trip to Ueno Zoo in Japan last month had filled his psyche with much love for pandas 🐼 - and by extension, red pandas.
We have a rule in our house: buy a new toy every month.
My son had received money from his doting grandparents. He had received clearance from his mum to buy a red panda this month. The stage was set for his next conquest.
After breakfast, I accompanied him to the toy store several subway stations away from our house. He decided to use his money to buy two boxes of red pandas.
We then went to an eatery after that, and he asked for my camera to take the above photos. There was one more photo he took, and you can see it below. Yes, he took all his panda toys to the toy store.
He’s five, and he knows how to occupy his time with the things that he likes. I hope his spirit doesn’t get crushed by external pressures, be it from school, his friends or even his parents, as he grows up.
That's great. He must have loved seeing the real Pandas at the zoo. We had pandas visit the Toronto Zoo some years ago. It was before my daughter was born but we took our son and he loved it.

Are your children still picking up fun animal facts from their studies? Iirc both of them won Fun Fact Friday with a quirky animal fun fact
reply
Yes but we haven't done a Fun Fact Friday in awhile. I stopped getting facts from them when I was hosting the Fun Fact Friday posts but they have been automated for months now so I should get them back into it.

This age is great. So much independent drive and curiosity.
Off topic, but our dog looked a lot like a red panda.

I have never kept a pet, so I don’t know the grief involved in losing one that feels that a family member.
Would you keep a dog again? Or is the pain of losing it not worth it?
reply
We are talking about getting another one, but the pain of loss is still present.
I don't think our daughter is quite ready, maybe none of us are. When we ask her what kind of dog she might want, she always says that she wants her dog back.
