I'd take the cultural criticism a little differently.
It's perfectly fine to value leisure and entertainment activities above pursuits of knowledge and expertise. However, you can't then be a bunch of resentful whiny babies when the people who strive for excellence actually do excel.
It's pathetic narcissistic entitlement.
