I have a horrific one. Chainsaws were first invented for childbirth. they were apparently developed in Scotland in the late 18th Century to help aid and speed up the process of widening the pubic cartilage and removal of disease-laden bone during childbirth. It wasn’t until the start of the 20th Century that we started using chainsaws for woodchopping.

In the movie tombstone, doc holiday says "I'm your hucklebearer" not "I'm your huckleberry"
A Huckle was the part of the coffin that you grab to carry. He was saying that he was going to be a pallbearer, and carry his ass to the grave.

The dead wasps-in-figs myth is true.
If the female wasp arrives in a male fig—also known as a caprifig—she lays her eggs and then dies. Her eggs hatch, with blind, flightless male wasps hatching first. They mate with their female counterparts. The male wasps then burrow a tunnel out of the caprifig, and the females fly out, full of fertilized eggs and carrying pollen, starting the cycle anew.
...but, alas, the corpse is gone:
The crunches you experience when chewing a fig are the fig seeds, not the wasp.

Wow, on Monday we have memes and on Friday facts? Cool! I can try on this one.
Military Tanks were originally called "tanks" as a code name to disguise their true purpose during development. British engineers in WWI used the term "water tank" or "tank" to mislead spies, suggesting they were building mobile water containers for the desert campaign rather than armored fighting vehicles. The name stuck even after their real purpose was revealed.

The full name of Los Angeles is “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula.”
In 1769, Spanish colonists established the city that is now known as Los Angeles. In 1781, another group of 44 residents moved to the new settlement. The city was titled El Pueblo de Nuestra Seora la Reina de los ngeles de Porcincula by the Spanish ruler. This translates as "The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of Porcincula." Because the name is extremely long, it was condensed until it became Los Angeles. As a result, Los Angeles is now known simply as "The Angels." Source

Sveriges Riksbank, established in 1668, is recognized as the oldest central bank still in operation today. Originally a private bank, it evolved through a series of transformations, including the collapse of its predecessor, Stockholms Banco.

Sharks existed before trees! Sharks have been around for over 400 million years, while trees appeared roughly 350 million years ago. This fact is supported by research in paleontology and evolutionary biology.
