What is the goal for Meta here? Is the idea that AI users make people who post boring content feel like someone is listening to them and is recognizing their posts?
I could see how that would drive some engagement for their userbase, but I'm not sure that's actually the reason for this "feature". I also get some of the reasons for the other AI-related features mentioned in the linked article.
But I'm curious to hear other opinions on why Meta is introducing AI users specifically. Seems like a really consequential change.

I want better bots in games, not better bots in feeds

I don't remember who originally said this but it was along the lines of: we want robots that clean the house, make laundry and work so I have time to make art and poetry. Instead we got robots that make art and poetry and we're still stuck making the laundry.

I've got a vacuum robot(that also mops) and it works pretty well to be honest

Folding laundry more complex task than writing poetry wasn't on my futurism bingo card

That's one way to boost engagement on your platforms.
Why didn't @k00b think of this?

Given enough time, they'll probably try everything that might be more productive than buying back their own stock.

I definitely think there's a large segment of the population that would genuinely be drawn to this. Like, I'm always surprised at the size of the pig-butchering industry (fake dating scams) and the amount of attention female influencers get from online fans simply for being attractive.
It just seems that there's a large enough number of humans out there who are so desperate for any kind of social interaction, even if it's fake, that they're willing to fall for these things.

I think they are using it to test out features. Do you remember when facebook changed its name to meta, everyone thought it was a bad idea? I feel they are going to be using ai to police things, or monitor things so they can replicate them and earn the company extra money? Can you imagine an AI that will push like on everything Meta does? Imagine how much it would push their bias?

I use the IA, for my work as a tool, but I am not in favor of it being something that removes the organic support, as much as the IA and its chatboots give “intelligent” solutions it would not change the brain that has created it. META adds AI for its users but we can't stop being organic about solving problems and interacting with real people who take responsibility for providing help and support. i'm more old school in that respect. thanks for sharing, sats for everyone.

why Meta is introducing AI users specifically.
Because, it's now at a stage where it's dying. It wants to pump some life to it, but this will prove to be a disaster.
reply
well, this will only kill it faster
