Ok, this was my gift to myself on xmas and I just 100%d it, i would say a solid 2d Mario , i enjoyed new super Mario 3d world more though, a ton more endgame things and with wonder, you just get these medals you can hardly see.
challenge wise, it was, I would say, very easy, bar two levels, the timed wall kick special level and the final, final special world level .
a lot of the power-ups were meh and of all the abilities I only used one for most of the game.
still, nice to have something relaxing and not too rage-inducing. has co-op to play with the kids too, so yeah, i would recommend it, but like all first-party Nintendo games, it's pricey
Bought this one for my son's birthday this passed summer. He has completed it but I am only about halfway through. I thought it was a lot of fun but after playing it a few nights in a row I put it down and never went back to it. It is good but not as good as other Mario games. At some point I will pick it up again and finish it. If my kids ever let me use the Switch again. Haha.
We got him Mariokart 8 and Mario Party Jamboree for Christmas this year. Looking forward to trying those.

The nice thing about Mario Wonder is, and a lot of 2D platforms, is that you can come back to them any time, and you don't have to worry about forgetting the controls and things like that.
haven't played Mario kart 8 in a minute, but it's excellent, i don't know how they could do a Mario kart 9 to follow it
mario party looks fun as hell actually, i was thinking about getting that so we can all play. i have fond memories playing Mario party on the n64 during out school lunch breaks , my friend lived a few mins from the school

Mario Party is quite fun to play with the kids. I think the only drawback is I don't know if Jamboree has an option to set the mini games to family oriented only so they are easier for little ones like Mario Party allstars does. I haven't played it yet but my son and daughter played over the weekend and my 6yr old daughter was having some troubles with the controls for the mini games. My son seemed to imply he couldn't set them easier like in Allstars but I am not 100%. It was the first time they played so maybe he just didn't know how/where to do it.

yeah, coordination can be tricky for 6-year-olds, my youngest is also 6 and isn't much cop on the game pad yet

The family mini games on Mario Party allstars are quite good for younger ones. She doesn't usually win but after she plays them a couple times she can at least do well enough to enjoy them.

I think it's the best 2D Mario since Super Mario World on the SNES. Lots of variety, lots of interesting mechanics, and there's always a different way to overcome the same challenge.

i'd have liked to see some of the mechanics a bit more fleshed out, but it was fun. i thought the stands and online component were also cool and saved me a few times for sure

Nothing beats your childhood memories of good old games! Not even the good old games themselves when you replay them
reply
lol yes , sometimes replay one and think, man this is shit lol other times you think, I'm an adult now and will beat this but in the case of that one battle toads level, it's still not true!

It's solid, and has a lot of fun ideas. But because a lot of the ideas are one-offs depending on the level, it felt more like a tasting platter than a main course. I think I prefer Mario games with fewer powerups and mechanics, but deeper use of them throughout the levels. And yes, the difficulty felt very easy, even for a 2D mario.

I don't mind the number of power-ups, but the bubble flower and elephant were just not very satisfying.
