As we head into 2025, I’ve been thinking about setting up separate wallets for specific goals, like a travel fund or a gifting fund. Saving in bitcoin has been the most effective strategy for me, but spending it on meaningful experiences like travel or gifting during holidays and birthdays feels like a rewarding way to put it to good use.
I’m curious if anyone else does this and how you approach it. What wallets do you use? How do you organize your funds?
My current plan is to create a global travel fund in bitcoin. Here’s what I’m thinking:
Use Aqua Wallet as a custodial account for this purpose. Save in Lightning to take advantage of lower fees and faster transactions. Swap some of the balance into layer 1 once it hits 500k to 1M sats. Keep a portion in Lightning for spending flexibility while traveling. When I travel, I could use the bitcoin directly or swap it into USDT or the local currency, depending on the situation. I like the idea of keeping my savings tied to specific goals. It feels like a good way to stay organized and make spending intentional.
Does anyone else do something like this? If so, what’s your setup? I’d love to hear your thoughts and wallet recommendations!
This is what I plan to use Bitkey for, but I think you could use Nunchuk similarly. I will fund the Bitkey throughout the year above and beyond my standard DCA and I set the No Device daily spending limit to the upper bounds of what I think I may need while traveling. If I get pickpocketed for instance but still have my phone, I should be able to find a way to get from Bitcoin to local currency.

electrum wallet would be great for this ( less the usdt part). you could have wallets for each use ( savings, spending, etc) and within each wallet you can create lightning channels for spending if situation calls for 'em

awesome thanks for the advice. Was also thinking of using my on-chain wallet on my lightning node for it too but keeping my options open and seeing what others had to say about it.
There is also a saying to never spend your bitcoin but to me it's money and spending a very small portion of a stack that i earn for travel (best joys of life) is worth it to me. No fancy cars or clothing, but mingling with the locals in India, Mexico, or Africa is priceless.
bitcoin has been the most effective strategy
bitcoin is not a strategy, that's just shitcoining gibberish
spending it on meaningful experiences like travel or gifting during holidays and birthdays feels like a rewarding way to put it to good use
Please do it, sell all your sats on consumerism and expensive travels, that's such a good use!!!
I could use the bitcoin directly or swap it into USDT
