Guess who's in charge of the ~econ territory?
This guy (Undisciplined points at him/her/itself as you read this).
The founder of this great territory, @jeff, has too many irl commitments to invest the time he would like to into ~econ, so he offered to let me take over indefinitely. If you are interested in the conditions agreed to in this transfer of power, see here (that link should probably have been a Rick Roll).
Even though we initially discussed this possibility a few months ago, I never really gave much thought to what I would do with the territory. I love the regular contributions we've been getting, lately, and I'll seek to make sure those continue.
My first order of business will be to search out the optimal posting fee, which is a process @jeff began. Expect a fee reduction in the near future, once I settle on a search method.
I have a very expansive view of what constitutes ~econ content (as one of my advisors said, "If it's about people making choices, then it's econ."), so I hope people will choose ~econ for their posts involving anything related to human action (the subject or the book).
Expect more updates as I come up to speed on running a territory and let me know what you'd like to see from this territory going forward.

It's like watching a cyberpunk estate sale where the currency is attention and the goods are human behavioral patterns.

Congratulations sir! I Wish you a grand success with ~econ.

Congrats! Will sheriff catch us if we assmilk ~econ?

Only one way to find out

Curious to know what's that? There's so much on this topic yesterday, it blew my mind.

Congrats about your decision to agree on @jeff proposal for taking over the ~econ πŸŽ‰
As @k00b said welcome on the adult's table and if you let me add to his metaphor I hope you'll enjoy what it can serve

Thanks, that was ek, though.

Welcome to the adults' table!
If you could change the economics of ~econ in any way imaginable, what would you change?
reply
The simple thing that I want is for stackers to be able to set the price of commenting on their posts.
I'm not sure what the right fee split is between OP, territory, and rewards, but I think this is an important tool for fighting spam/trolls.
Beyond that, I probably need more time to get a sense of what running a territory entails.

Good news, @Soxasora created a PR today so at least founders can configure this πŸ‘€
I'll review tomorrow and look how much work it is to also give the option to authors.

Looking forward to your wisdom!

I'm looking forward to resuming that foundry series that @grayruby started. Let's bust out our metaphorical cigars and arm chairs and get down to some old fashioned scheming and plotting.
reply
I have a different answer.
Wen crossposting?!
reply
Wen world domination?!* I was already working on it! :P
It’s for sure more complex than my other PRs so I can’t really promise anything eta-wise
reply
You're working on it now?
I'm not surprised it's tricky to program. It seems simple enough at first, but whenever I think more about how it would have to work, it gets confusing fast.
Good luck and thank you for your service!
reply
Ah, cool stuff. Not sure wether to say congrats or good luck....so I'll say both.
reply
Thanks on both counts

Business owner has been changed. If the service stay on the same level or increase quality it'll eventually become beneficial for our town named stackerNews.
Satoshi bless you, mate
reply
Thank you.
I will endeavor to maintain or increase the quality of content.

Oh this is an easy one for me. I would be interested to know about your econs teaching days. The triumphs and setbacks. The funny bits and irritating moments. The heartbreaks and the small wins. @Shugard and @SimpleStacker will feel likewise, I bet.
Congrats! 🍻
reply
My econ teaching "career" has been very uneventful. It's better to hear from them about that.
All of my interesting teaching experiences were in a former life.
reply
No way @Undisciplined! Never give up your spirit!

This territory needs more Canadian content. Everyone loves to hear about the misadventures of the Canadian economy. It is a crowd pleaser.
reply
It's the gift that keeps on giving. Never change, Canada.
reply
Oh we won't but hopefully leadership will.
reply
Congrats! Selfishly, I'd like to see more posts discussing fun little stories from economic history, illustrating libertarian and Austrian ideas, that I can use in class. I'm sure they would be both entertaining and enlightening to stackers as well
reply
I'll keep that in mind. I love economic history, but haven't had the free time to do much reading in it lately.
reply
Same. I'm trying to improve in my ability to sprinkle little economic history lessons into my lectures, because let's face it, 95% of my students (all undergraduates) are not going to go on to ever solve a model or run a regression. It's these stories that are likely to stay with them and influence their thinking 10 years down the road.
reply
Good point. Over time, I've wondered more and more what the point is of education being so focused on solving algebra puzzles, rather than understanding core principles.
reply
I still think there's some value in it. Especially for the students who are capable of doing it proficiently, practice in solving models will help them think more clearly down the road. For example, it'll help them pinpoint which mechanisms lead to which outcomes, and then how multiple mechanisms balance out against one another.
That being said, I'm convinced that less than 10% of my students will ever get to that point. For the vast majority of them, learning some basic principles illustrated through stories will probably be more useful.
reply
There's definitely value to it, but most of undergrad STEM is just applied algebra.
I think that's a disservice to the various disciplines and it's not the most valuable skill or knowledge to take from any of them.
reply
I'd liken it to scales practice for musical instruments. It's not necessarily worth much in and of itself, but without that foundation you won't be able to advance to the highest levels of proficiency. But by that same token, scales practice may not be the best use of time for most instrument learners.
Congrats! Looking forward to seeing the territory continue to grow.

Wonderful news! Congrats, dude.
Looking forward to see what you've got coming :)

Thanks! I'm counting on more posts from you to keep us afloat.

That's a promise (Only 5 MONEY CLASS this month, so um... I'm apparently slacking! Let's blame the holidays)

Congrats UN! Will we be getting an Econ pod as well?

Who knows what ventures I might recklessly dive into?

Congrats! 100 sats to post looks great. Ahahh
reply
That will probably be close to the first iteration of my search.
reply
Congrats. I remember when you first talked about this. Things on SN keep moving forward!
reply
Thanks
It is wild how things progress here. When territories started, I wasn't comfortable founding ~econ, because of the cost. Now, I make enough through SN to justify it.
reply
Yes, how you have progressed. Maybe you can fund another one in the near future?
reply
Time will tell. Stay posted.
reply
Does this mean you are going to cut back a bit on the sports territory?
reply
Not bloody likely. I'll be looking for ways to cut back even more on fiat life.
reply
As active as the sports territory is, I like the econ side better. You will have to manage your time more wisely now that you have to split your attention. Not that you werent before.
reply
Managing my time wisely would be rather off-brand.
Dont worry, I will be here for a while haha
reply
congratulations for this position and responsalibidad, personally I would like to see more content on bitcoin and why not once saturated the brain, more music to refresh in the territories of culture and music... SN becomes my diary and the more areas the platform has to offer to the user the better and more complete it will be, which in fact it already is for me. Thanks and sats to all
