That is not what's in the code, as far as I understand it. Having higher trust confers benefits, but trust and seniority are not the same thing.
Also, trust doesn't directly earn you more rewards. It makes your zaps more meaningful in where content is ranked. High trust primarily benefits the recipients of zaps.
Perhaps the problem is in how you earn the trust. Is that very transparent?

It is transparent, but also not ideal. This post probably gives the best sense of what the problem is.
You gain trust with other stackers by zapping the same content as them. Then, your average trust score is used to weight your zaps on content.

Your proposed solution would spread the rewards out on a time basis, but the problem would still remain: gaming the system. I don’t think that is avoidable, someone will always try gaming the system because that’s what people do.

It was a while ago. I don't even remember proposing a solution.
Yes, people will always attempt to game systems, and some will succeed. I think the reason Stacker News works so well is that it's easier to just earn the rewards honestly.
There's low salience in behaving in an underhanded fashion.

This is what I cannot understand about the people complaining about assmilking parasites. Don’t they understand that no matter what you do to change the system the assmilkers parasites freeloaders freeriders will never go away. If you get rid of the current bunch, another group will just pop up to do their thing. Both complaining and discouraging will do nothing in the long-run to end the problem.

Sure. If you know how to read code. Not for me. I know some people who are good at that though.

Okay. Like I said, I am clueless. Doesn't change what I have seen.
