Dad's 70th birthday, he cracks open a Madeira wine that has been in his possession for 40 years. It was purchased in Madeira 1984, and by the looks of it the label says 1954 (ie, 30-year aged).
But it's not clear.
Some auction sites suggest we just lost out on a few hundred quid/euro of second-hand value—"dude, that's hundreds of thousands of sats, what's wrong with you?!"—but we can't be sure.
Any drink and wine experts among the Stackers?

Wonderful. Don't let stacking sats get in the way of living a quality life. Your father is 70. This is a well deserved indulgence.

Wish him all the best for his birthday! Give the wine time and space to breathe! Enjoy it!

Even though I can't enjoy wine, I can only pray, I hope your father will be healthy and live a long, successful career. Thank You

How was it? Not often you will get to drink a rare wine or an aged one like that !

Wonderful!
I'm not a big wine guy (only port and Madeira) so it's hard to tell. But I found it sweet and easy to drink :)

I guess if you go buy a cheap same type of wine you will see a difference for sure

At 70 just go for it!

How did it taste? Still like wine or vinegar?
reply
No, no -- still excellent!
reply
Thats good! Wine can go bad if you are not careful how you store it.
reply
Did you have to filter / sieve it?

I don't trust any age labels on wine. It's all a scam, unless I bought and stored it myself for the duration
reply
Fair point. And it was given as a gift 40 years ago, too, so we are weeeell past any obvious "verify" notion

Did he store it in a wine fridge? at what temp?
Amazing and congrats! Cheers!
