If you are getting a lot of spam, raise the cost incrementally until the spam drops off but the posters and commenters still do their thing. You can adjust as needed to get the right amount of non-spam vs. spam.
I'd say nostr clients still have a lot to learn from Stacker News.

It is hard to comment on this because I don’t know anything about nostr. But knowing about economics in this case may help. I a lot of cases, just a minor fee for doing something changes behavior greatly. The example I like to use is the Aldi’s cart fee of a quarter. Just because of that one little fee for abandoning carts in the parking lot, gets them all returned to the proper place. That to me is amazing!!! A miserable little quarter saves a lot of work gathering carts and returning them to the corral.
