The Mariah Carey song is definitely one that I'm wont to loathe.
Generally I don't like hearing the same recordings so when I hear Christmas Lounge I appreciate the songs again as I did when I was younger.
I was very lucky in the 1970s as I lived in a neighborhood where we gathered with neighbors and practiced singing Christmas carols and once we were confident in our ability we went out on a few nights and knocked on doors and we sang for the residents who opened their doors. This makes me appreciate the carols intimately.
I went to an elementary public school in Virginia where we had a lot of Jews, Christians and we sang Chanukah and Christmas songs! So it was not unusual to visit Jewish, Muslim or Christian friends who had Christmas trees, menorahs and a mix of things because it was fun!
Vince Guaraldi, the composer of Charlie Brown Christmas songs is one artist that I can not hear enough of. I like others who play his music as well.
Merry Christmas. This was a good thought exercise.
