The bench said the pervasive misuse of temporary employment contracts reflects a broader systemic issue that adversely impacts workers’ rights and job security. “In the private sector, the rise of the gig economy has led to an increase in precarious employment arrangements, often characterized by lack of benefits, job security, and fair treatment.”
This has been a very big issue not only in private sector jobs but also in government sector jobs. This verdict though came about sweepers who have worked almost for 20 years as temporary employees in the hope of being permanently employed some day.
This isn't the case only in low profile jobs but there are jobs such as doctors, fire fighters, veterinarians, teachers, nurses, clerks, muti tasking staff, drivers and even Indian Army has recently employed temporary men for only four years. The temporary employment of soldiers has seen widespread protests but they couldn't last too long because of not getting support from evryone.
I can confirm that this 'New India or Better India' is a big myth and the reality has to be seen from within. The jobs aren't sufficient to recruit almost 600 million people asking for them. Out of them only 35% can say that they are happy with their job or pay or its status. I've not included housewives in 600 million because a very large portion of them would never work.
According to the Pew Research Center, a significant majority of Indians consider the lack of employment opportunities as a "very big problem" in their country. "About 18.6 million Indians were jobless and another 393.7 million work in poor-quality jobs vulnerable to displacement", states the Pew report. Source
