Videos on the internet are monopolized in a few huge and centralized platforms. We need new ways to build them in a decentralized way. Novia is a new project that uses the Nostr ecosystem to empower people who are passionate about archiving their favorite videos. The idea is that people build their own personal video archives on their local machines and hard drives. Video metadata can be published on Nostr relays, but the video content remains local.
Once someone discovers a video on a Nostr relay and wants to watch it, they can send a request for it to be recovered. An archive gets this request and makes the video content available by uploading it to a Blossom server.
We currently have a web application to list and browse videos and an archive service that people can run on their machines to host their own video archive.

I think that we do not need "archiving" YT videos but a totally alternative platform where people will upload their videos directly and being rewarded V4V.
Copying videos from YT on another repository but not rewarding the creators is not the way forward. Yes, it can be a way to save good content, but that we are already doing it in private. Anybody today can save any YT video (example here https://publer.io/tools/youtube-downloader) but that's not the right way.

I see it the same way but actually much easier lift for PlebTV. Will role out some major updates in 2025 and unlock the front gate once we get it primed. The only thing that’s slowing down any of this is money to build this, that’s why we have been slow and steady with our platform.

I guess is coming soon. Pay to upload, pay to watch ;)

What's a Blossom server?
I'd love to see this project succeed, but I have learned some tough lessons from similar which make me less than optimistic.
Take IPFS for example. It was marketed as a way to end 404s, fight censorship, and enable collaborative file pinning. IPFS has failed miserably at everything. 404s were simply replaced with 504s, the whole system is vastly more censorable than torrents, and the software is only usable by experts.
My biggest word of advice is to put user experience front and center. I don't care what cool new tech you're running, if it's not easy enough for a grandma or a brainrotted zoomer to use, consider the project DOA.
Secondly, incentives are everything, and altruism isn't enough. There are plenty examples of Peertube instances that came and went because the operator wasn't able to continue paying the storage and bandwidth bills.

I agree, it should be sustainable at least (if not profitable) from the beginning. Payments probably implemented soon

This sounds exciting. I have been a big user of YouTube and I am eagerly awaiting what will replace it in the nostr/Bitcoin future.

Great! That's definitely something you should check it out and test it
