A Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury study estimates that it will cost $9.8 billion to meet the infrastructure needs of the state’s K-12 public school system in the next five years
For purposes of the report, school infrastructure includes school buildings themselves, roofs, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, playgrounds, parking lots, athletic fields, land purchases, site improvements and professional services costs like architect fees
The condition of the 1,687 school buildings in the study breaks down as:
-
52% are in good condition – Structurally sound, meet building codes and functional requirements and need only routine or preventative maintenance or minor repairs;
-
38% are in excellent condition – Can be maintained in like-new condition – meeting all building codes and functional requirements – and need only minimal routine maintenance;
-
9% are in fair condition – Structurally sound but relies on maintenance or repairs – that hinder but do not disrupt the school’s use – to make sure that they meet building codes or functional requirements; and
-
1% are in poor condition – Costly and disruptive repairs, which could prevent the schools’ use, are necessary to make sure the building meets code and is functional.
As part of their request,state lawmakers also asked the comptroller’s office to find out how neighboring states fund school projects, and those mechanisms included appropriations, like direct funding for construction or toward payment of locally issued bonds; debt assistance and loans; and dedicated local and state revenue such as lottery proceeds and property taxes
Come on Tennessee bitcoiners! Tell the state to buy bitcoin save it for a few years then boom you have your funds to improve your schools.!
Unless all the bitcoiners plan on homeschooling their kids then this approach works against them. But remember the rest of the public goes to those same public schools you are avoiding. The crappier they are the worse it is for society as a whole.
