This sounds like a very good idea! The real problem is the use in databases as the unique identifier for a row of cells in the database. Every cell in the row is referenced to the unique identifier of the database. Yes, you can lock it from others requesting the information, but if it is already out there, it is like closing the barn door after the horses have all left.
