I found it very easy to introduce people to Bitcoin in Kenya.
It could also work in East Africa, and possibly with giraffes (see video) 🦒 🦒
Here's how it works:
- pay the business or uber or whatever via mobile money called Mpesa.
Mpesa is EVERYWHERE in Kenya. You do this using @tando_me but be explicit, tell them you are using Bitcoin to pay them.
-
The business realises, "oh interesting, Bitcoin has value! It's money!"
-
Ask to tip them. Do it in Bitcoin.
They don't think bitcoin is a scam anymore GREAT SUCCESS because you just paid them in btc.
I found that 10 times out of 10 they say yes to the bitcoin tip.
- Ask them to download @blinkbtc.
It's the best wallet for total beginners.
It's custodial, duuuh, but it has a section called "earn" in which people learn about bitcoin. Small steps.
- Tip them in Bitcoin to their Blink wallet.
Use something with a fun graphic like the @CoinCorner wallet if you are filming (lol)
Or use a noncustodial wallet like @bitkitwallet if you want to explain custody vs. non custody.
- Get them to download Tando.
Show that they can send money from bitcoin to fiat via Mpesa using their Blink and Tando wallets
Sounds confusing?
Yeah it kinda does when I write it down like that.
But i did this loads and it had a great strike rate.
Here's an example. Youtube link below
