Thank you for another year of a fun and well run pool. I enjoyed it a lot and definitely kept me even more engaged during a more boring period of time of the regular season.
You can probably tell by those so called analysis posts that I was really engaged and tried really hard to win this thing. But sometimes in life, the harder you try to reach something, the further away you get from it. Need to be more zen and let go, then the thing will come to you. Enlightening on some nice philosophy here as we speak, haha.
I agree with GR that the court colors were killing my eyes and giving me headaches. I would much prefer what they did in Vegas, stick to the normal hard wood color and just slap some NBA Cup logos on the courts. Other than that, I feel the NBA Cup was a great addition to the regular season, making it more fun to watch. Looking forward to Tuesday's final, should be a fun one!
Thanks again for running the pool!
I would like to see them improve the incentives and scheduling a little bit.
I'm sure the players like the extra money, but they also like the extra time off when they lose. My favorite idea for a good incentive, that doesn't mess up the rest of the season, is that the winner of the tournament earns any tiebreakers that may come up for playoff or draft position.
I also think the groups are weird and they should just use divisions. No one cares about divisions in the NBA and this might be an organic way to make them matter to people.

I don't recall exactly, but it has to do with previous season standings.

You are correct. According to the NBA site.
All 30 teams have been randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on win-loss records from the 2023-24 regular season.
It seems they do a random draw but at the same time basing the random draws on previous season standings. I guess they want to make sure to have a good mix of good, mediocre, and bad teams in each group.

It seems like you'd almost always have that with divisions, too.
