The blockchain surveillance firm Chainalysis has released a report on the use of cryptocurrencies by Syrias' Hayʼat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an islamic opposition group credited with overthrowing the Assad regime on December 8th.
The original report is really light on details. This is about as detailed as it gets wrt the txs:
One campaign received its first donation in late October and received a total of seven donations prior to the 27th, since which time it has received over 30 donations.
No info on chains used or tx sizes.
I can't help by feel repulsed by Chainalysis, they try and claim some moral high ground, but in reality, they just betray people's financial privacy to whatever cuck agency is paying them.
and while it's tempting to say, yes but terrorists, yeah well regardless of gov, one day we can be classed as terrorists.

Yeah that part sucks but I am sure this company has helped people who been scammed. If the industry didn’t have a theft problem no one would have created this company

I have always found this a bit curious. Why is it the cryptocurrencies fault, and not the people who have sent it? Maybe the exchanges shouldnt allow it? I feel like cryptocurrencies are always being blamed for what bad people do?
reply
I'm not sure anyone, here at least, is blaming the industry. I think chain analysis is like "look what we found" and "hey governments buy our product."
reply
I feel it is very similar to how people blame guns as being bad. I realize people here dont think this way, but out in the world in general. It is going to take a while for people to become educated with bitcoin.
reply
It will take a long time. Just look at what happens to guns.
reply
Yes, its only a matter of time before they try to take away the guns. They are already limiting them. Especially the production of bullets.
reply
It ain't gonna work!! People will tell them where to put it.
reply
Sure, they don't want people using cryptos. They free us from the banks.
reply
This is the same kind of problem that guns have. You know, guns kill lots of people! BTC is used by a lot of criminals and killers! When are people going to quit falling for this sh*t? People act and do stuff, not things.
reply
Does this imply that toppling tyrants and freeing tortured prisoners is a bad thing?
reply
Send a few bitcoins over so they can buy some weapons and ammo lol
