Been performing some maintenance on my node and it required some significant downtime. It had be wondering if there is a way to signal ahead of time to peers on the network that a downtime event is coming and that the node will be back online in x hours.

More important is to disable accepting new htlcs and wait for all inflight ones to clear. You can do that with bos for lnd. When you go offline suddenly due to power or isp outage, you can post your status to Amboss. So make sure you can login to it without a node, i.e. link some email beforehand.

You can also use amboss.space billboard to publish a note to all node runners, also using keysend from your node

Now... how to script that to all the peers vs. manually doing it.
That's a fun little project I will probably never do. :)

I'm not sure that is necessary. If you properly shut down your node, you node will send messages to all your channel peers, telling them that the channel is about to go down.

Oh really? Is that documented somewhere?

Good question. A nice little pop up on your peers nodes saying 'maintenance' or 'power outage' might be useful.
Best to have peers that won't mind you going away for a day or two.

stackers have outlawed this. turn on wild west mode in your /settings to see outlawed content.
