For our Meetup group I've set an ecash mint. The motivation was that it'd be a fun experiment for the group, and it'd also potentially be easier to onboard newbies. Having a ecash payment request on the fridge box that contains beer and letting them "pay" it with gifted ecash in a PWA app is much easier than setting up a full-blown lightning wallet. In the former case we could even pride ourselves that it's all meetup-group-custodied. :)
Another interesting experiment would be to have zaps working using ecash and our own mint. But here we're a bit stuck. Is there some way of making this work in a somewhat fluent way? Of course we can just pay a zap but using the cashu wallet to pay an invoice, but this is not very convenient. I have tried to use NWC on cashu.me, together with Damus on iPhone. But, nothing at all happens why I try to zap. What is needed to get this to work?
I think the best option would be phoenixd + cashu mint + any ecash wallet

Thanks for shilling phoenixd. Not sure how this helps here, however.

0xchat has a cashu wallet

Yeah, ok. I just tried that. Couldn't add our mint. It just says "Add Mint Failed. Please try again." Looks like it isn't even trying, as I see nothing in the mint logs.

Have you tried minibits wallet, It also has nwc support.

I've tried Minibits many times on three different phones, both on wifi and data networks and it always gives me the same error while connecting to create the wallet profile (whatever that is):
TypeError. Network request failed.
I've asked Minibits on Nostr twice, but they won't reply.
Coinos, eNuts, and Mutiny wallets work very nicely in all three devices.

They have a TG chat if you want to ask there: https://t.me/MinibitsWallet

eNuts looked a bit promising, but they recently put out a message to not use it on iOS for a while as it's severely outdated and one may lose funds.

I don't know anybody who uses iOS. I know one person who had one some time ago (a version 4, IIRC) and they swear to never make that mistake again. :-)

Yeah well, say what you will about iPhone. I have an iPhone 8 that some employer forced upon me. Wouldn't buy one for myself. A lot of people have iPhone where I live, and Apple is loved religiously by many. Surely we must be able to assimilate these plebs as well. :)
reply
I have not. While I'm convinced that this would be easier or Android, I want to get as far as can go on iPhone. If it's not convenient there, it's a harder sell during on-boarding etc.

Was your cashu.me wallet open while you zapped?
reply
Yes. I use the PWA, created by Safari.

How can it be open when you need to have Damus open to zap?
But maybe it can still work in the background, it's just a common issue with mobile wallets and NWC.
reply
Well, you asked whether it was open and not whether it's in the foreground. So, the PWA is open but not in the foreground. Is there a convenient work-around?
