pull down to refresh

As our stacker Mets fans celebrate Steve Cohen spending an absurd amount of money on Juan Soto and start planning their parades, the rest of us non Mets fans must look towards the next dominoes to fall in MLB Free Agency and possibly the trade market.
The MLB Winter Meetings begin today so the rumour mill will likely be churning over the next few days with trade and FA talk.
Here is a few things I am keeping an eye on in the coming days/weeks:
Pitchers
  • Roki Sasaki has officially been posted by his team in Japan. That means he has 45 days to talk to MLB clubs. Where will he sign?
  • Where will free agent SP Corbin Burnes land? He is the best SP available this offseason.
  • Will the White Sox trade their young all star SP Garrett Crochet?
  • Will the Mariners trade veteran SP Luis Castillo or one of their other starting pitchers?
  • Max Fried is probably the second best FA starter available after Burnes. Does he stay in Atlanta or go elsewhere?
Hitters
  • Now that Soto has signed, what will teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Blue Jays that were in on him do for a back up plan?
  • There isn't really another super star level hitter but there are a bunch of good hitters left on the market. It will be interesting to see how the markets for Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, Pete Alonso, Teoscar Hernandez and Christian Walker shape up.
  • Will the Blue Jays be able to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or will he play out his final year of the contract and test free agency? (after seeing Soto's deal, I don't see any way he signs unless they overpay)
It will be fun to see how all of things play out of the coming days, weeks or months.

As an Astro fan it pains me but I thi k Breggy goes next to Boston or the Jays. With how big Soto’s contract got I can easily see him now asking $250 mil minimum and likely getting 275 out of someone.
He's great but the wrong side of 30. Co tract might work for a year or two but then its going to be rough. Only way he stays in Houston is if he takes a $200 mil deal over 5. Even if he cares about money this deal, since Texas has no state income tax, still might get him more money but it won't seem like itI the headlines.

It would be great if the Jays signed him but to your point he is getting older. If he wants a 5 plus year contract it is probably not worth it. A 3 or 4 year deal would be great.

I know the Astros offered him 5 at I want to say 150-160 so for him he will have to decide does he want more guneteed long term or a higher AAV

That’s a pretty good deal for him.

Mets signed Bobby Bonilla to a large contract in 1991. They negotiated a buyout with deferred payments when they released him

Are they still paying him 1M a year?

Is the author of that article really named Dan Mullen? That’s ironic

Is he still unemployed?
I guess he has not found a coaching position since Florida
reply
I think he’s still being paid by Florida, which is why he is a tv personality for ESPN
