Just came back from walking the dog and listening to your pod. Really appreciate your recap of my story and seeing how it correlates to your own.
In terms of the shitcoins. Yeah i totally got sucked in but for context i was always 90% Bitcoin.
I first read the white paper when I was learning during the 2018/2019 bear. Mostly because it was something OG bitcoiners on Twitter encouraged people to do. I didn't really grok it though the first time. I read it again in 2020 and a couple times since. I tried to get my son to read it and do an essay on it for 10k sats but he never did it.
In terms of Twitter. I don’t use it much anymore. I don’t think it is really high signal any longer. I guess Bitcoin twitter is still a thing but it seems to be all about price now. I wouldn’t send a newbie there to learn.
In terms of the Bitcoin cultural writings. I think that in something I have more gotten into in the last few years.
I did do a free bitcoin and blockchain course that was available on edx back in 2018 or 19.
Let me know if there is anything else you brought up that I missed.
Did u have any personal family or friends tell u to buy it? Did u know any who had it? Have u had people approach you first? Have you tried convincing ppl yourself?
Do u agree that unfortunately ppl need “time” for it to soak in for them. Do u agree from your own story that Twitter/nostr/SN are ineffective, and ultimately its books/coursework/hard news or hard education podcasts that actually convinced u?
The big thing for me is being clear on what actually gets ppl down the rabbit hole. Cus it’s so fun to spend all my time in the echo chamber talking to my tribe now that I found my people. But I don’t want to kid myself that it’s productive or helping anything. Or is it?

No, no one I know told me to buy. I had heard about bitcoin in the news and online but never from anyone I knew personally.
I have convinced a number of people to buy bitcoin but I don’t think it is a good way. I try to convince people to learn about bitcoin now.
I do think things like Twitter, Nostr, SN are good as resources to access people to learn from but people have to want to do the work and learn. I do think v4v and Bitcoin rewards integrated into applications people use is a good way to get them interacting with, holding, using bitcoin and that’s better than nothing. I think SN can be a very good resource because a complete newbie could have the best of both worlds on SN- using bitcoin and having a great resource for education as well.
I agree it takes time. I think there are more resources and ways to get exposure now than when I first found bitcoin but the rabbit hole is ultimately a journey.

Yup it’s a journey either way. I agree convincing them to start to learn is better than convincing them to buy.
But of course convincing people to buy $100 worth just to get off zero and get some skin in the game and monetary incentive to learn more can be effective too!
