The question today is how many folks there are in the so-called Ukraine west and east. It was said to be about 45 million in 2014. This is not regarded as accurate as much of the population left for Europe after the Russian collapse in 1991 for better jobs or at least half. That brings the total to 22.5 million. There are said to 10.5 million in the western Ukraine today but this seems very high. There were two emigrations from the western Ukraine to Europe first after independence from Russia a great number and more after the war started. The wages in western Europe are far higher than in the Ukraine and this applied also to the Balkans which had large numbers of their population go to Europe. The eastern Ukraine is about 7.5 million according to our estimation.
The end is nearer than we think for Ukraine. Russia looks like it will be walking over the remains of the Ukrainian military soon. This means there will be more refugees. Is Europe ready to reap what they have sown?
