At bit late this week as Round 4 has already started but better late than never.
After splitting their first two series of the season, the Heat finally got their first series win as they defeated the Adelaide Giants 3 games to 1 in their Round 3 ABL series.
The series did not get off to a great start for the Heat as they fell 4-3 to the Giants in a nail biter. LF Tim Kennelly, 2B Carlos Colmenarez and DH Angel Mateo all produced 2 hits but it wasn't enough for the offense to overcome the early deficit the pitching gave up. It looks like stud SP Tucker Smith left the game early, likely due to injury, as he was performing well.
The Heat secured a resounding 9-3 victory in game 2 on the back of outstanding pitching from Jake Bowey and Dariel Fregio, as the tandem pitched all 9 innings giving up only 3 runs. The bats were even better as Fumiya Kurokawa led the strong offensive charge with 2 hits, including a home run and 4 rbis.
In game 3, the Heat's dominant starting pitcher, Young Woo Shin, was great again, pitching 5 innings giving up no hits, no runs with 6 strikeout and leading the Heat to a 5-3 victory. On the offensive side, LF Tim Kennelly powered the bats with a homerun and 2 rbis.
The final game of the series was a blowout as the Giants had no answer for the Heat offensive onslaught and the Heat won 11-3. 2B Carlos Colmenarez led the charge with a fourth inning Grand Slam.
After 3 rounds the Heat have a record of 7-5 on the season and trail the Sydney Blue Sox for first place by 1.5 games.
Go Heat!
