Scaphism, also called "the boats," was a terrible execution method used in ancient Persia. It was designed to cause the most pain and suffering over several days.

The victim was placed between two wooden boats or hollow logs, with their head, hands, and feet sticking out. They were forced to drink milk and honey until they got diarrhea, which would collect inside the boat. Then, honey was spread on their exposed skin to attract insects.The victim was left floating on still water, often under the hot sun. Flies, ants, and other bugs would swarm to feed on the honey and lay eggs in the victim’s flesh. The milk and honey diet kept the person alive but also made their body rot slowly.

As the days went by, the bugs would eat away at the person’s skin and wounds, while the smell of the filth and decay made the situation even worse. The combination of insect bites, infections, and dehydration caused a slow, agonizing death that could take several days or even weeks.
