Skating with the kids is always fun. My little one started ringette and his skating skills improved exponentially. Probably going to be a better skater than me soon (which isn't much, but still not bad for a soon to be 7 year old).

That's great. Every time my daughter goes shopping with me at Canadian tire she tells me she wants a hockey stick. I tell her "let's work on your skating first".

Get her on a team if she's interested, she will improve her skating very fast. Half the kids on our team either don't know how to skate or aren't very good at skating. They all improved so quickly, it's amazing to see. Kids just learn so fast.

We will work on skating this winter and go from there.
