Basically Jack uses credit card/s to spend cash fiat and he pays them off with Bitcoin. Listen closely to what he says.
Total bullshit. Strike is no more than another Paypal over LN. NOTHING BURGER, NOTHING "INNOVATIVE".
By converting back your sats into VISA cards is no more than going back to fiat, instead forward to destroy fiat. Instead of MAKING that merchant to accept BTC, you keep them using fiat rails.
This is NOT Bitcoin adoption. Bitcoin adoption is when you earn in BTC, spend in BTC (merchant is accepting directly your sats) and you hold in BTC, creating a Bitcoin circular economy.
If is not closed that circle it is not at all Bitcoin adoption, is just sustaining the fiat system to exist. FIAT SYSTEM MUST DIE!

Exactl, act naturally and merchants will quickly empathize with you. Years ago it was more tricky, Bitcoin is already familiar to everyone, if a store adopts bitcoin it's not your choice, so just let the merchant know that you will pay with BTC. For this, I put some local shitcoin (as little as possible), so if merchants refuse to accept BTC, I tell them that I only use bitcoin, so I'll buy some, but not everything I'd like to. I just buy and keep remembering them that accepting BTC is as simple as downloading an app that doesn't even require registration, finally I drop my contact info, offering to bring help if they need it, several days later I go back to the store, but this time I can only pay with bitcoin. Build human relationships, be honest and don't try to convince anyone

Some years ago I wanted to have 2 near by merchants to accept my sats. Were good shops, with little different products.
So I always went to each of them, buying some stuff and always asking nicely: "do you accept BTC?" For months and months they rejected until one day I went with a friend to one of the shops.
We bought some beers and snacks and in front of the cashier (was the owner) I said to my friend: "Pay with your cash and I will give you back sats from my BTC wallet..." And I pull up my phone and opening a LN wallet preparing to pay him.
He paid in cash to the owner and in front of him, my friend downloaded in few seconds a new LN wallet and I sent him the sats. The shop owner was visible excited seeing the whole scene and said: "I thought this Bitcoin thing is more complicated and is used only for speculations... now I understand why you insisted to pay with BTC".
I said: "next time my friend... I will teach you. And this is not just the beginning, think about that this transaction is p2p and nobody else knows about it... no banks, no intermediaries, no govs, none of their damn business".
Then few days later I onboarded him with a simple LN wallet and start paying my groceries in sats. Owner really happy with and willing to offer me all kind of stuff I need only if I came to his shop and buy with sats.
Later I went to the other shop and I said: "Do you accept Bitcoin? The shop across the street already accept it..." They said again "No". Then I said: "OK then, I am going to buy from them... and they offer me even a discount." And I repeated this scene over and over until one day they start accepting BTC too.

I think this is great, however, I have friends who are in their 60s, 70s and 80s. They need simple ways to use Bitcoin and Fiat. Not just Bitcoin.
The shop owner still has to use Fiat. Jack's while point is to only use Fiat when you are paying people who don't want Bitcoin. If they want Bitcoin you can also pay directly.

Forget about the old people. Focus on the young ones. Until Bitcoin will take over, will pass more than 5-10 years. Is not that easy just because we've reached 100k in price... Is all about resources and education. The old people will only want to let their money to the young and enjoy the rest of their years in peace.
I am also 50+ yrs old, but all I am doing with BTC, I am doing it for my daughter and the young ones.

My keep group has old people. We have young people with children a also. Forgetting about old people is stupid.
Our last meetup a father and his ten year old daughter did a presentation. I get what your intentions are but I still have to help everyone, including myself.
Your advice here is not falling in dead eyes. Thank you for the insight. I'm still going to try everything.

I am not saying not to try Strike method ! I am saying that every bitcoiner should try to do as much is possible NOT to use fiat rails. You cannot live only using BTC straight from day 1, that will be insane to say it.
As I explained many times, it took me years and years of preparations and training, where slowly I move out from fiat world. But that doesn't mean you should just use Strike and that's it, thinking that you bootstrapped fiat world. You are not, in fact you are continuing using fiat...
reply
I agree.
I don't want to be rude but I've got to go to work and get more Fiat because I've been living on Bitcoin and I don't have enough.
Thank you for taking the time to explore this subject.
Let's chat again.
By converting back your sats into VISA cards is no more than going back to fiat, instead forward to destroy fiat. Instead of MAKING that merchant to accept BTC, you keep them using fiat rails.
That's not what Jack is doing. He's got his own credit card and he pays his bill by exchanging Bitcoin at the payment point.
I understand what you are getting at here but you are telling us that you never use Fiat? I don't believe you.
Not one service you are using is denominated in the Fiat economy?
If this is the case then you are using another human as a mule to engage services. That includes Stacker News who pay thier bills in Texas in Fiat.
reply
I live only using BTC from 2018... Why? Because with hard work and dedication I find a way to be surrounded by bitcoin merchants. I convinced them, I helped them. I closed the fiat bank accounts long time go. This is the trick that people still don't get it: get onboard as many merchants you can in your local area.
I don't believe you.
I don't need you to believe me. I just do it and I am happy. Was it easy to achieve this level? Hell no! years and years of preparations and hard work. And now I just enjoy it. But that doesn't mean people should not try it. Using these solutions that are nothing more than "paypal over LN" is not the way forward. It just perpetuate the existence of fiat.

Strike is great for people who live outside of your carefully cultivated reality. How would you handle retirement accounts of people who get government checks and need to eat and pay their bills?
You would show them a bridge solution like Strike. PayPal does not handle Lightning or Bitcoin.
A retired, fixed income person can hedge against inflation using Strike.
You are not going to help those people if they can not bridge the gap.
reply
You will never have bitcoin adoption with old people.
I have a simple question for you: do you want to continue living in a fiat world?
reply
That's a very good question. That answer is that I'm not wasting time in anyone who isn't interested.
If a mature person is interested then I will invest my time in that person. They have children and grandchildren.
The young people in my family are not interested. They are caught in the nonsense. I'm 54 and I I'm not spending time on people who want to argue or are brain dead.
