how did u grow up to appreciate and love certain genres of Music?
  • did your mom & dad play these songs in your presence?
  • did you have friends who played this all the time?
  • did you overhear it one day on a radio? was it a good day? please share in the comments below.
i have come to love Tool for its occult revelations, the unorthodox cadence and time signature, the bass line. music by its nature reflects the current times, even if the creator relies on past genres and methods in order to propagate the message. Tool is entirely self-marketed, they own the label and refuse to sell out to the music industry. they are the light occultists in the music genre. everything is a battle for your mind & soul, and everyone has free will to decide what is right.
= = = = = = = = = story time:
i was friends with a girl, sightly older than me, very pretty, with shortened finger tips (acroosteolysis); she came into my life when i was searching for a 3rd roommate. i was living with a 6th-year american art major, who was a pure-blooded american (almost redneck-type, but artsy) and he ran a tiny tattoo business directly from our basement-level apartment. that's how he paid for school, rent, and necessities, besides running to the plasma-collection center next door on a weekly basis.
anyways, the 3rd roommate we eventually ended up with was a red head paid for with a first month deposit of her friend, a rock-band singer. allegedly he blew all her money on weed, and so in exchange for that, he paid for her new lodging. despite Ginger's grand plans of running her own art company, she failed to pay rent after the first month, so i had her run the AirBnB while my roomate and i were away from home for travel or business.
she was a troubled soul, with a violent victim history, but has always had good intentions. she was a good example of how to live by the natural law - however from a modern fiat psychiatric assessment, she would qualify as a schizotypal person. she spent most of her days playing Doom and drinking vodka, about a liter per day, but not quite dependent on it. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizotypal_personality_disorder) "They frequently interpret situations as being strange or having unusual meanings for them; paranormal and superstitious beliefs are common."
she pointed out my flaws (Satanic programming) before i knew that there is such a thing, and told me to listen to Tool, so i did. i don't know where she is now or whether she is alive, but her lessons remain.

My folks played a lot of varied genres from across the 60-80s and I heard 90s and 2ks stuff on the radio. So I had a pretty decent exposure to a lot of stuff.
I started playing piano at around 5 years old. Learning music helped me develop an appreciation for the talent musicians have and the more I listened to stuff the more in awe of them I was that they could make these great sounds with these instruments that I wouldn't have a clue how to make a note on.
Having a musical education being trained classically in the piano as a kid really helped me appreciate a lot of things I'd have otherwise just written off.
You hear a lot of people say "that's shit", "your musics crap". But I never seem to find that, I only find that music I don't gel with at first is just music I don't yet understand. That's exciting! Because now I have an opportunity to go and find out, to learn about it. Never stop being hungry for knowledge and understanding. There's always something you can recognise in a song that may not be your preference (and thats ok) you may not like something as it's not your preference, but it's not shit, it's just not for you. Yaknow what I mean? You can always find something the guitarist is doing, or the drummer or the singer or whoever... There is always something that you can find if you listen and look hard enough.
Thats always been my outlook on music and I gotta say for me, it's given me a lot of pleasure I'd have otherwise missed out on.

I pretty much only listen to entire albums. I can listen to all tool albums front to back and enjoy it all. The first 2 albums aren't as intriguing to me anymore but all the others are in my rotation regularly. Have you listened to Existential Reckoning by Puscifer? I'm just listened to it while washing dishes actually. It is probably a tough listen at first but it sucked me in and now its too 5 ever for me probably. Just reading the lyrics is enough too. Magical stuff I my opinion.

pure-blooded American?!
What even is that

in general, means living on the territory of america for quite a while, usually more than 3 generations, because once the 3rd generation comes of age, usually none of the people who are still alive in the group have been anywhere else.
