This is the story of Milo, the kitten I adopted a few days ago!
It all started a few days ago. I was at a friend's store taking photos for her business. It was raining really hard that afternoon, and out of nowhere, a tiny kitten came crying and scratching at the door like it was looking for shelter from the rain. Of course, we let him in. Poor thing was soaking wet and shivering cold. We dried him off and kept him in the store while we figured out what to do with him.
We waited a while, checking outside every now and then to see if anyone would come looking for their cat, but hours went by and no one showed up. Since he was a bit dirty and full of fleas, we all came to the conclusion that he was a stray.
It was Saturday, and the store wouldn't be open on Sunday, so leaving him there alone wasn't an option. So, I volunteered to take him home to find him a new home. Since I'm a photographer and have a social media following, I thought I could take a few pictures of him and be sure to find him a home quickly!
BUT there was a problem. The cat had fleas, and I have two cats at home. So to prevent the fleas from spreading, I took him to the vet to get flea medication and a dewormer. We left him there overnight while the medication took effect.
The next day, we picked him up and brought him to my studio to take the photos I'm showing you in this post (the ones that would help us find him a home). But the truth is, by this point, I had grown very attached to the little kitten. He was so sweet, playful, and he purred so much!
So, while I was taking these photos, my girlfriend and I decided to adopt him and named him MILO, which is a nickname for Camilo
While we were taking these pictures, we noticed that MILO had a lot of eye boogers and a runny nose. Even though we cleaned it up, it would come back very quickly, so we started to suspect that MILO might be sick. So we took him back to the vet to run some tests, and our suspicions were confirmed. MILO had a feline cold, so the doctor recommended keeping him isolated in a separate room to prevent him from infecting our two healthy cats.
According to the vet, we basically saved MILO's life. Without proper food and medication on the streets, he might not have had a strong enough immune system to survive this illness.
The doctor prescribed medication for 10 days and isolation for 10 days. Today is day 7, and MILO has improved a lot. He's feeling much better and healthier. On Saturday, he has a follow-up appointment to check his blood work and see if he's completely healed and can come out of isolation.
MILO is such a sweet little baby, and he's stolen my heart. I can't wait to let him run around the house. I know he'll get along great with my other two cats since they're all so playful!
My two cats haven't met him yet, and they approach the room where MILO is with a lot of curiosity, but that will be a story for another post!
I understand your feeling very well. If a new owner is not found immediately, the affection strengthens in such a way that the previous idea fades away. In my house there are six cats and half of them were in the same situation you went through. Lucky for Milo he found a home like yours. Congratulations!!!!
