How close is AI to human-level intelligence?

Everyone who hates AI will say "AI will take our house bs in a few years". No objection to them. But I wanna ask a little different question that's; 

when will AI supersede human cognition or at least will become as capable as human reasoning is?

I believe there's nothing stopping AI to be as capable as human cognition but when it'll happen is a thong of debate for me.
