How difficult is it to create your own mint?
About as hard as running a lightning node and accessing it remotely. Running an ecash mint for just yourself doesn't make a whole lot of sense though (in the absence of an application that requires you use ecash and you don't trust other mints).

If that's the case I see many "uncle Jim" mints that users like us could run for friends & family.
I've never understood the loathe bitcoiners have for custodial solutions, the fact is that the UX is way better. IMO the problem with custodians is that you can't meet them face to face (and punch them if required). The same problem that we have in fiatland with politics: you never get to look in the eye the people responsible for the f**ups.

Personally at least, I don't "loathe" custodial solutions for small amounts. However, they starve non-custodial wallets of users which we need to work well for bitcoin to be a global MoE. Also, beyond "uncle jim" setups, custodians are illegal without kyc/aml/licenses in the western world.
