I never finished this one, but I like it. There is a small pond with wild mallards who never migrated and domestic geese.
I've never understood how they could withstand the frigid temperatures, let alone be willing to do cold plunges in that water. Yet all winter they keep a section thawed for their daily dives.

this winter i shall be doing a "polar bear plunge" in a northern lake, looking forward to it! it did not occur to me that some ducks/geese do not migrate in winter. i must not be getting out into nature enough.

The geese that stay are domestic, non migratory, so they get fed. The mallards are either young or just stick around for excess feed.
None seem to be bothered in the slightest by the cold though. Which is wild.
